 Do you remember when…..

….a flying fox was just good old-fashioned fun?

…. you sat in desks and the strap kept kids in order?

….you were in the school concert?

….you had “different” names for teams each term and the parent v kids

footy games were so much fun?

….it was still okay to have a trampoline at school and it was left open for family use after hours?

Those were the days, and you were a part of the great memories of Yaapeet Primary School . On April  5th 2008 we will be celebrating 90 years of education. A Back-to will be held to mark the occasion, together with the production of a book to capture the memories of past students and teachers.

We are interested to hear from anyone that we have not been able to contact or has not contacted us.

Anyone who has been apart of the school’s history or had any affiliation with the school. Past students, past teachers, children of past students or past teachers, anyone who has worked with or at the school or help out. Anyone who has an interesting story or information about the school or past students and teachers.

19/08/07: More memories from past students have been coming in for the book. We are now reading through the typed collection.

The orchard is mentioned in many of these recollections but we don’t have a picture of it. If anyone has a picture of the orchard or the old hall before the brick foyer was added, please send it to the school and we’ll copy it.

12/08/07: We have been lucky enough to track down three evacuee families who came to Yaapeet from Williamstown in 1942. The Edwards, Mackrel and Taylor families were thrilled to be “found” and those who are able, plan on being at the 5th of April Back To School. Mary and Fay Taylor from Tasmania are very excited and hope that their classmates and teachers will be there to catch up.

We have collected memories from about 100 people so far. If you know of someone who went to the school and has not been contacted, please let us know at the school.

24/07/07: There has been a great response to our call for school memories, with over 50 pupils and 10 teachers responding. Some are one liners, others a number of pages. We’ll have to sort out what we can use, there has been just so much history collected.

We have found most past pupils and contacted them, but there are still a few more out there. We have run out of leads, so if you know someone with a connection to Yaapeet or to the school who has not received an information sheet, please contact the school.

Work has begun at the footy ground to establish some camp sites, showers etc. The piping for the water will reach Yaapeet in about October. We hope to be able to celebrate in some way.
